Describe What You Can See

The examiner will show you a photograph and say “This is Part 4 of the test. I will show you a picture for you to describe and then answer some general questions related to it.”

You will have 30 seconds to look at the Photograph and then 90 second to speak about the photograph.

You should try to speak for about 90 seconds.  (If you can record your answer, please do so, and listen to it after reading the sample below)

After you have told the examiner your answer,  he or she will then ask you some questions about the picture such as:

Examiner’s Questions

Q: Is this a long haul or short haul aircraft?

Q. How long after the incident do you believe that this photograph was taken?

Q. In your country, after an accident like this, which agencies and authorities must be informed?

Q. Do you think that this aircraft can be repaired and flown again?

The examiner will now thank you for taking the test and inform you that your result will (should) be ready within 10 days.  Well done!

(NOT PERFECT) Example Answer

The example below uses all of the vocabulary from above, but is only approximately 40 seconds long.  Can you add more information to the paragraph to try to make the speach approximately 90 seconds long?

In this photograph I can see a British Airways 777 (Triple Seven) aircraft that has had a serious accident at the runway threshold.

There are many emergency service vehicles and personnel surrounding the aircraft and the escape slides have been deployed.  The ground near the aircraft is covered in water and foam.

There is serious damage to the landing gear and to the engines which were obviously ststained on impact.

I imagine that passengers were injured in this accident and there might have been fatalities.
