After that “Rotten Banana” disaster that GOL created some years back, it appears that they have improved their paint game a little with their new Rock in Rio design! When you have a multi-million dollar budget, you should always try to have fun when you are spending, Here is a collection of some of the coolest aircraft paint schemes known to man!
This paint scheme was designed to commemorate the 2008 Beijing Olympics, painted in the same style as the Russian olympic team’s uniforms, this aircraft spent the whole month shuttling back and forth between Moscow and Beijing
6 Air New Zealand
After successfully obtaining the sponsorship deal with the New Zealand national “All Blacks” rugby team, Air New Zealand painted this, and five other Boeing 777 aircraft “all black” and included the famous silver fern emblem, these aircraft are still painted like this and flying today!
5 Air France
You really do not believe that this is true do you! But, like, seriously, this is photoshopped right? Absolutely not, in one of the most audacious of publicity stunts, Pepsi paid airfrance to keep this Concorde painted in these colours between 1996 and 2003, how did so many of us not know about this!
No need for a lesson on Australian heritage here, but in 1994 Quantas took a step towards recognising the Aboriginal roots of Australia when it commisioned Aboriginal artists to help to design this paintscheme for the first of 4 similarly painted Boeing 747 aircraft.
JAL became the offical partner of Disneyland tokyo and decided to commerate the occasion by painting one of its largest aircraft bright pink and covering it with our favourite Disney characters, Mickey Mouse, Donald duck, Snow White, they ran out of space for all the great characters, and, because they can, they painted six more aircraft with yet more characters!
Taking the theme one step further, when you fly onboard an All Nipo Airways Pokemon themed aircraft, the celebration of Japanese culture exists inside the aircraft too, these aircraft, flying since 1998, also have themed interiors, with decorated themed overhead lockers, themed food trays and even exclusive souvenir bags. In my opinion, not an airline to choose if you know that you will be a passenger with a hangover!
1 Kulula Airlines
All students, fans and friends of Plane English should have seen this paint scheme before, I am almost addicted to uploading photos of it, and it was certainly this inspiration for this article. Kulula Airlines of South Africa commissioned this paint scheme “Flying 101” to raise awareness of uncommonly known aircraft parts and also in a bid to improve aviation safety. I have yet to travel to South Africa, but I will, and this is the reason!
